Default Trickle charging

Hi guys
im only doing some 2 miles per day in my 2 litre Discovery 5 and have been informed that the main battery cannot charge itself to replace the current loss due to starting the car over that 2 mile distance.
it has been suggested I obtain an intelligent battery charger and trickle charge my cars battery via the slave terminal connectors under the bonnet.
i spoke to a dealer service guy, be he desk bound and whilst he was not a technician could not give me an answer on this
will this damage any components in the car if I trickle charge from these terminals.
of course the car would not be running during this process
thank you in anticipation

You will incur problems beyond simply a discharged battery if you're only driving 2 miles per day. The oil in the vehicle for example will not reach a sufficient temperature to burn off moisture. I suggest driving the vehicle for 30 minutes at least once every 3 days.

As for the battery charger-yes you can use a special maintenance style charger to keep the battery in optimum condition. However, you do not have to connect it daily. Once on the weekend will be sufficient to top things off. A 1.25/1.50 amp unit such as a Deltran Battery Tender Plus will work fine. Simply use the connection points under the bonnet as specified in the owners manual.

Good luck!
