Default Violent, Sporadic Vibration

Hello all! I just purchased my first Land Rover - 1996 Discovery SE7. The vehicle is in overall excellent condition. The gentleman I purchased it from indicated the vibration will go away after an alignment. He recently replaced the bearings and shocks and said doing so threw the alignment out of whack. I happens sporadically, but seems to be over 45mph and after I hit a bump. The vibrations are so violent I have to pull over. Any thoughts?

And an alignment won't fix it...... Be very careful if you hit a bump taking an exit ramp from the freeway at speed and hold on to your Depends.

Death Wobble.
Your swivel ball pre-load needs adjusting, after you check/replace your ball joints and tie rod ends and panrod bushing.
DI tech section, read it.

Default ...one more addition...

I forgot to mention that after the "wobble" occurs, the steering column almost locks up. It's as if the power steering goes out for a bit. Does this change your thoughts on the issue?

Also, make sure the bolts securing the gear box are tightened fully.

He lied to you neither bearing replacement or shocks will cause a wobble.
As already mentioned above, you need to spend a while under the truck, checking for bad tie rod end, bushings, bushings and the proper setting of your swivel ***** and CD's. If you don't know what or how to find and fix this the go to a good 4-Wheel shop that does alignments and have then check for what is loose, not an alignment cause a bad alignment will not cause a wobble.
Let us know what you find.

That could be loose steering column bolts, I believe there is a link in the tech section on this, they sometimes come loose and the front end is fine but the actual steering shaft is loose.
You can have your wife drive next to you on the freeway and have her watch the front wheels as you go over bumps, if the front wheels shake violently it is def something in the front end being very loose.
Tie rods, ball joints, etc.
