Default What do ya think of a 1988 land rover?

I was talking to a buddy and mentioned I would like to get a land rover and he said that he had one. Someone owed him money and gave him the rover as payment, I think he would just give it to me but I would need to get it from California to Utah but would that be too old of a rover?
He doesn't know much about it, he parked it with a mechanic friend so I could probably get some info from the mechanic but would this be worth looking at?
Thanks,

Default More info on the 88 Rover

My buddy that has the 88 Rover told me that this was running when it was parked but that was 2-3 years ago. The Rover is parked at my buddies mechanic shop so he is going to have his mechanic go try to start it up and see how it goes. So again, would this be something that would be worth getting? Is an 88 too old to mess with? What are the pro and cons of something that old?
Thanks,

Are you sure it's a 1988? Or is it an '88', i.e., a short wheel base series land rover?
Find out what model it is, have him send some photos you can post so we know what it is.

Default Its really a 1991

My buddy just got back with me and this is the scoop on the rover.

My mechanic said it is a 1991. It was made in November of 1990. He said it runs. He drove it around. It needs a fuel pump that he said cost $500 and a master cylinder for the brakes that cost more than $1000.

With needing to transport it and the work it needs I think I'm going to pass, but if there is anyone out in California looking for a rover, I can put you in touch.
Thanks to everyone
