Default What engine do I have

Hello,

New member here who is trying to figure out what engine I have in my MGB. Yes, MGB.

I am told it is a 4.0 that was purchased as a short block. I have done several searches using the block serial number to see if that is true. But the prefix does not match any Rover engine serial number that i can find online. Maybe short blocks do have their own prefix?

The block serial number is 568D00351A

This doesn't completely answer the question, but it may get you headed in the right direction. The first digit could be an 'S' rather than '5'. Tough to tell.

Thank you for your help.

"S" or "5", still nothing matches with the 68D...

I will continue the search.

could be a number placed there by the rebuilder and not land rover. Don't recall the compression ratio being stamped on my 3.9s. Admittedly never paid that great of attention to that detail either

My 4.6 has the compression ratio and the stamping looks the same
