Default What have I done wrong!!!

Ok, so my first mechanical project was this afternoon...changing out my steering wheel and replacing the horn button assembly. So, I disconnect battery, wait five, pull off steering wheel, disconnect a the audio controls and cruise switches and put them on new wheel. I put horn button assembly onto new wheel like my old one on my old wheel was. I reconnect everything and put wheel back on. Go to hook up battery, and "hooooooonnnnnnnkkkkk!". So I fiddle with horn buttons but to no avail. I even remove the buttons and springs and have no top metal to bottom metal contact. Still, when I reconnect the battery, the hot is blaring. WTF have I done wrong here? Seemed like a pretty easy job, and I was feeling pretty good about it until about ten minutes ago.

Something has to be making a connection in there... No other explanation

You either crossed some wires or disconnecting the battery has set off the alarm, check your manual for reset procedure.

Funny to go along with this. So my 3.5y/o son who hates loud noises wants to help dad fix the car as I'm finishing up, so I stand him on bumper to help reconnect the battery....I think I ruined him ever wanting to help fix the car again! He looked like he'd just seen Michael Myers pop up from under the hood with a bloody butcher knife as he made tracks!

Feeling good now! Got home and connected battery and went through the re-set the alarm possibilities to no avail. Disconnected battery and went back in. In my rush to get the job done last night as daylight was fading, I did not thread the distal ends of the wires that connect the horn buttons to the cruise and volume controls deep enough and out of the way of the airbag bolts. They were smashed and broken, so I carefully spliced the back together with wire crimps and threaded them correctly this time. All is well, and I have a properly functioning horn...for the time being...on a like new steering wheel.
