Magnflow Cat Back Installed on 2003 Discovery II
I just installed the Magnaflow Cat Back Muffler on my 2003 Discovery II HSE.
At first I thought it was a bit loud inside the car from 2nd to 3rd gear. Now the sound has grown on me in about a months' time. The rear tail pipe nicely tucks up by the factory bumper so it cannot drag or touch anything. I would have not gotten a new exhaust but there was a 1" hole were the factory pipe had been rubbing at the bend for probably 2 years from previous owner, who had backing into something.
With the combination of my own custom made K&N Cold air intake and the cheap-O Spectra plastic 3" piping from AutoZone the Magnaflow Performance exhaust has made the Rover much more snappy to drive. I like anything that bolts on and makes my Rover get about 10 more HP. I'm not sure about the 10HP but its definitely more angry than before. I know it breaths better from both ends now.
I paid :
$370 free shipping for the Magnflow Cat Back Exhaust Part#16888
-http://www.wundercarparts.com/shoppingcart.wws?invpk=154822
$55 Cold Air Intake(My Generation 1)for all the parts including the K&N RU-3130 Hi Flow cone filter + 3hrs of my time fabricating the hose off the back to the ERG? valve. Now I'm deciding to cut a hole in the fender well to get true cold air.....not from the engine compartment. There is about a 15/20 degree + air temp increase from the outside air. Estimating from my ScanGuageII and the outside air temp.
Or I may save up and get the Mantec Snorkle, which I would need to cut out left fender. Mmmmm
Anyone have the Mantec on their Discovery? I dont like the ARB Snorkle. Kinda looks like a cancer growth grew out of your left fender.
I know everybody know what muffer looks like but just took pictures for fun

Yeah, I think the problems with K&N flat filters must have been with people drenching them in the oil spray. That oil must suck up into the MAF sensor and burn out the filament over time. I only lightly sprayed mine when I had the flat air box filter. I had no problems with my MAF. I will get a video on You-Tube with the Magnaflow. I really noticed the HP gain with the cold air intake. The Magnaflow muffler just kinda sounds cool, cut I doubt much if any HP gain.
Here is where I notice the differance with the Cold air intake/Magnaflow. Not only in accerlation from a stop light, But also when you are driving in traffic and let off the gas. There is much less noticable drag on the highway and on city streets that automactically slow the Rover down from engine/gear pull. It just seem like the horses want to run now!

I had bought the flat K&N but took it back at the urging of another LR forum. I will need to replace my exhaust at some point in the next few years because there are already a few weak spots and I swear I hear a leak.
Any line on some headers with cats?

If you don't oil the K&N with enough oil, too much dirt passes thru and into the engine, and this will happen on any dirt road run.
Really can't win with the K&N, proper amount of oil and the MAF goes, not enough and you get too much dirt into the intake.

Mike,
I respect all your knowledge on these Discovery's. Viewing my setup. Is there any cone filter on the market you would recommend other than the K&N??? Seems like there are a lot of filters out there. K&N is most available and popular. Any that dont require oiling or use a different material other than cotton.

Hello,
I would just call wunder car parts @ 1-888-986-3373.
I ask for the best price of $375. All their mufflers ship out with free shipping.
For a 03/04 Discovery II. It is Magnaflow part # 16888
