LOL, can't agree. The 40s and 50s vehicles are very different beasts. I know, I have one.
So are the hoses, which is why they haven't needed to be replaced. The hoses in LR2s are made of Chinese crap rubber, which is known to deteriorate much faster than higher quality products.
I have an in-law who works for Volvo. I'm going to ask him if he can confirm where Volvo sourced the engine coolant hoses for the LR2 engines. I suspect that they knew damn well the hoses had a 15 year lifespan.
I didn't post all the photos and video I took with the borescope, but here's another one. It's a Volvo part number for a cooling hose, with "FoMoCo" and "Poland" markings which makes sense since Ford owned Volvo and LR during that period. I don't know how Poland compares with China for quality, but my gut says go with Poland if those are the only choices.
I brought my photos into an independent Volvo shop today. They said the hose damage appears to be from rodents. I had a rodent issue a few years ago, so maybe it took that long for a leak to develop.
I knew rodents like electrical wire insulation, but I didn't know that gnaw on hoses. They told me they've seen it before.
I am continuing to look for another shop since this one is booked until mid-March.
Hmm. That makes sense. If you can at least get to the spot where it is leaking and you have to wait until March, I would get in there, clean up the hose and make sure it's dry and wrap some of this around it to tide you over.
