Default 2008 LR2 sunroof shades

Hi guys,
Any tricks or advise on repairing the retractable sunroof shades which are both sticking at halfway open position other then replacing them?

Clean and lubricate the track channels with silicone spray. Do NOT use regular WD-40, that is not a lubricant. Only silicone spray.

Picture(s)? Maybe a salvage yard will have what you need. Try www.car-part.com.

If you want to retract it, and I have large hands, extend it all the way, disengage and slide both hands into the cavity and use your fingers to manually roll the screen onto the spindle as tight as you can. I did this for front and back and they are both working again once you get the release, once fully expended after manually rolling it up tight. I think the tightness allows the roller spring to retract unencumbered. Worked for me, up to today, so good luck as it's worth the try. If it spools up loosely, it will jam.

It seem what your describing is much like a window roller shade where you remove it from the end brackets and roll it out then tightly back up and reinstall it in the end brackets. Correct?
I looked at it briefly and it’s really tight access to the shade roll and ends. I may be replacing the headliner and I think that would be the perfect time to easily remove the shades and re roll them correct?
thanks for the advise.

The "window roller shade" is short enough you can, patiently, roll it tight from the middle. Two sets of finger tips will speed it up a bit. If you are going to remove the headliner, just wait until it's down. Once it's tight, it will stop jamming.

I’m thinking the roller tube has to be popped out from the drivers side in order for the rerolling of the shade to have an affect on the retracting completely open position tightly and then put back into the end bracket correct??

Default Sun shade isn’t jamming

The shade isn’t jamming it just won’t retract past the halfway mark which indicates to me that the roller spring is either worn out or needs to be re tensioned.
sorry about any confusion

Download the service manual PDF and go to page 2397, the sunroof blind rewind procedure begins there and is fairly easy to follow. I doubt the spring is worn out, it likely just needs to be rewound and reinstalled. With the blind removed you can also check the channels for debris, clean them out and put some silicone spray in there.
