I decided to do it at 50K going forward (based on discussion on other forums and volvo spec). This will be my first DIY, planning on doing the repeat drain and fill method.

I ordered some AISIN ATF-0T4 which appears to be the 3309 spec required for the aisin tranny (early LR2s, after 2010 I think the switched to a synthetic spec). The LR branded fluid is of course insane expense ($650 vs $65 for 12 qts). Anybody know of a reason why I'd need LR brand instead of Aisin fluid? The tranny is Aisin, so the Aisin fluid should be OEM... assuming the LR fluid is just re-branded Aisin?

Been difficult finding the o-rings and plug gasket, I ordered several, will provide an update on that after I do the job. Didn't try the dealer yet, ours is so bad it's a last resort to drive up there.
Holy moleed, that's major masochism! just look for the same thing for the Volvo S60! Less than $80 for 8 quarts! Here's one example of a source.

When I purchased last, rockauto was the best per liter price, even shipped.

Yeah I ordered from them, shipped same day. Other placers were out of stock.

My scantool doesn't seem to support the ATF temp, anybody know of a model which does? Aside from SDD, would rather not buy the needed power supply.

So I do use SDD with a Chinese mongoose with a CTEK supply charger, but that's totally over kill for this task. I also use Torque Pro with a obdii bafx generic reader and a custom pid.

If you are interested, see this thread:

Nevermind, figured out that my Autel AP200 reads all the data from the modules.

Are you convinced that it's actually reporting the ATF temp? My Autel MD808P also reads data from all modules and it looks like the temp it reports is actually the Coolant temp.

It's described as "oil temp" under the TCM.

I'm pretty sure it's the tranny fluid because I took it for a drive to reset my emissions monitors (cold start)... after 15 mins, it was in the 50-60 range. After about 30 min it was in the 70's.

Coolant normally gets to about 90 within a few minutes and stays there unless you're really loading up the motor; I use an ODB2 gauge when towing so I'm familiar with how that behaves.

I'm pretty sure engine oil temp would get much closer to 90 or more, much sooner.

What is the LR part number for the ATF temp sensor?
