Went to start her after 15 min of being off. Will not start, no click, no sound at all. Checked the battery, which got replaced as it didn't pass testing. Still not starting. Same scenario as before battery replacement. Any ideas? Starter maybe?

 

Could be the starter, especially if you have 100k+ on the original.

You may or may not hear a relay clicking in the cabin. A bad solenoid might not make any engagement noise (I think the solenoid is what usually fails on these starters).

But try a computer reset first.

Disconnect both battery cables (neg first)
Wait ten minutes
Touch battery cable ends together
Wait ten
Connect battery (pos first)
Wait ten
Insert key fob (don't turn on)
Wait ten
Turn car systems on, but not the motor (with foot off brake, press and hold start button for a few seconds)
Wait ten
Start engine, drive around a bit

 

Thank you, that did not work and yes she has 135k on her. Going to check into the solenoid/starter, as I'm almost positive it's one of the 2

 

Starter likely needs replaced. Easy DIY job. Computer reset doesn't fix any of those things.

Wondering if it's better to buy a used starter with lowest mileage, or pay more for a reman starter? Thoughts?

 

The remanufactured one I bought on eBay has been working fine for more than a year. You can buy 2+ remanufactured starters with a warranty (albeit limited) for the price of a new one. These things are not technological marvels, they're relatively simple mechanical units with some basic electrics. Answer your question? If not, check out YouTube for how they rebuild them in Pakistan with basic shop tools, paper, cardboard, some string and horse glue.


Look at the one on the left and see if you want to put that into your car.

 

Ok, so I got a Bosch remanufactured starter.. wanted to use OEM to keep her as original as possible. It's installed and running!
