I've used Aisin T-IV in my 2008, since Aisin is the OEM for the transmission.

Also the spec changed from 3309 to 3324 somewhere around 2012, not sure exactly which MY.

I've been running Valvoline MaxLife in mine for the last 50K or so. I initially started using it hoping that clean fluid would help resolve a shifting problem I was having, but I ended up replacing the valve body in the transmission, which fixed it. Filled it again with fresh MaxLife after that and all has been well with over 250K on the clock now.

Where did you get the valve body?

I think they can be found at Volvo parts, or you can buy a transmission from a salvage yard.

Volvo does offer a valve body, for about $1700. It's for the XC90, same year/drivetrain. Anybody have any idea if that would drop in? I tend to assume yes but $1700 is a big assumption. Not sold on the idea.

I'd have no idea of the condition of a salvage unit, lot of work to end up back where I started. Unless one could fine a definitely low-mileage unit.

If you search car-part.com for salvage yards near you there are a ton of LR2 transmissions for sale from low-mileage vehicles in "A" condition starting from under $500.
