Default After market GPS /LR2

I had a Tom Tom XL, hard wired and mounted in the space for the factory nav system.
Works great, and is still removable, thought might help if someone is looking for ideas. See picture.

Nice Install. I am looking to do something similar and am interested to know if you were able to install this yourself or had to get it done professionally?

Has anyone else installed an aftermarket GPS in the empty space of the dash? I am specifically looking for ideas on car mounts that are easy to install in the open space of the dash above the radio.

I had the Kenwood G510 installed with the associated AV amp, bluetooth iPod and sirius radio. It fits EXACTLY like the factory and is removable. However, it requires special skills to install.

I had it installed at the retailer recommended by Land Rover dealer. AWESOME

Do you have any pics of the install?

N22,

I'm curious - did you use the mount that came with the TomTom to place it in the space of the dash or did you have to use a custom mount?

Here's my pic using an existing Garmin Nuvi. May look better with a wide screen upgrade.
Samm Sound (NJ) installed wire to fuse box but had to use "streetpilot" mount which has longer arm.
Cost $150 tohardwire both GPS and Escort 8500 (visor mount).

Thanks for the Tom Tom photos which gave me the idea.

That Tom Tom install looks like it was just stuck up in that hole...great for theives to see that it is not installed like the factory. The Kenwood system that had installed looks just like it was installed as part of the tech package. Really!
It is seemless and does not look like it could be taken by theives because it actuially looks like it belongs there. Contact Benchmark Motoring www.benchmarkmotoring.com or 425-614-4100 to have them send a picture and tell you about it so you can get a local installer to install.

That is truly the BEST option.
