Default Aftermarket Oil Filter?

Speaking of filters, is anyone using an aftermarket oil filter in their LR2? Something besides the MANN HU 925/4 y?

I use K&N. I tow a heavy trailer sometimes.

I just looked up the K&N filters. There are two of them which fit the LR2. Which one do you use, HP-7016 or PS-7016?

I just use whatever Jiffy Lube puts on there. I've never heard of an engine fail due to a substandard filter, and if that were the case I would have someone I could go sue.

K&N HP is supposed to be the the heavy duty version, PS is for daily driver.

Oddly the HP is often cheaper for our car, not sure why. Either will work, although if you're doing some kind of extended oil change interval maybe use the HP (I change mine at 5K, that's with a mix of city, highway, and highway towing).

Personally I don't trust quick-lube shops, you can google plenty of reasons (and amusing videos) for that. Did that exactly once in my life (had broken ankle from a military parachute jump)... they overfilled it which blew out out the oil seal and ruined the clutch. This was on a freakin' jeep wrangler, not something exotic. Next time I'll just crawl under the car cast and all. Or take it to a real mechanic.

That can happen in the best of shops when they hire someone new and don't train them properly. I know the manager at the shop where I do business and only he touches my car. If anything, he's too careful. Tried to tell me once not to use the LiquiMoly oil system flush for 10 minutes at idle before changing the oil. I told him I know the LiquiMoly regional sales manager for the Northeast. That ended that conversation.

I just looked up the product listings and photos for these filters. The HP-7016 appears to be a relabeled MANN filter, while the PS-7016 is a genuine K&N filter. That may explain why the HP version costs less for the LR2.

Have you ever used the PS?

now this isn’t a problem for Land Rover but I know when I used to work at Kia they were voiding the 10year/100,000 mile warranty for engine failure for any engine that came in without an oem filter. It turns out the aftermarket oil filters were deteriorating and clogging up the oil control valves

That would never stand up in court.
