Default Akebono Brake Pads

Just installed Akebono ceramics on our LR3. Anyone have experience with them on the LR2?

I am interested to find out if anyone has had experience with these brake pads on an LR2 as well.

I went ahead and installed these on my LR2. I used NAPA ultra premium rotors. I would rate them outstanding on both the LR3 and LR2. Brake dust is gone. Stopping is as good if not better than oem. After almost a year of use I can't think of a downside. I will use them on my next replacement.

Default Rotors

The NAPA Premium Rotors are rebranded Raybestos Advanced Technology Rotors, which are Raybestos' top-of-the-line offering.

I don't like the Akebonos on the rear of the LR2, but it has nothing to do with the pad. The caliper bracket clips are not available separate, and even with a good pad, the clips being dirty or worn can lead to uneven wear or noise.

I got those sheet metal clips for the rear at NAPA. You are right that the pads don't come with any hardware.

Dave, I believe the OEM brake pad kit includes four clips and four caliper bolts. I understand the importance of replacing the clips, but is it really necessary to replace the bolts?

Were the clips you got rubber coated on the bracket side like the factory ones?

Yes and no on the bolts. They are patch bolts, which can be reused, but loctite needs to be applied to them. LR suggests replacement of patch bolts.

When you say "patch bolts", I assume these are the caliper mounting bolts, also referred to as caliper retaining bolts. I just noticed there was a recall a year ago related to these bolts:

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC Service Brakes, Hydraulic:foundation Components:disc:caliper Recall

The bolts I am talking about are to hold the caliper to the bracket.

The recall was for the bolts that hold the bracket to the knuckle not being torqued properly.

Patch bolts are installed in many different places in the vehicle, they are basically a bolt with loctite pre-applied to the threads. To properly reuse this kind of bolt, the threads should be cleaned, and appropriate loctite correctly applied before installing them.
