I was told to purchase these when the check engine light comes on when it throws the O2 sensor code.
I did and the check engine light came on pretty much straight away. Is there any reprogramming that needs to be done or should I just get the O2 sensors...they aren't that old...maybe 3 years?
I'm not aware of using spacers like this as a fix (hack?), but O2 sensors should not fail after three years unless they were substandard quality to begin with.
Using OBD2 live data, check your fuel trims ... an overly rich fuel mixture can damage your cats as well as the O2 sensors.
As LR2driver says, O2 sensors don't die after 3 years unless they were crap to begin with. IMO it makes zero sense to use a hack to try to avoid the sensor error when you could have a problem that'll give you much more grief if you just try to hide it. That's just being penny wise, dollar foolish. Spend the money on good Denso or Bosch sensors instead. They are easy to change, but remember the front and rear are DIFFERENT.
