Crankshaft Position Sensor location on 08 LR2
The shop replaced the CKP sensor. It didn't fix my misfire problem, but was a step in the process of elimination, and another part to replace on the list of preventive maintenance for this high mileage (166K) vehicle. Diagnosis continuing.
Did you have a code indicating that the CKP sensor was faulty? I'm doing a mid-life reliability update on my LR2... is the CKP a known point of failure.
I have not heard that the CKP sensor is a known point of failure. It was just on the list of things to consider if you have a misfire condition.
It's inexpensive, the OEM sensor can be found online for as little as $35 USD. The difficulty is getting to it, at least for the gasoline engine. So if the car is on a lift for any other reason, you might consider replacing it at that time to take advantage of the access opportunity.
I took it to my local LR2 independent shop and they replaced it. This was one of those times the "right tool for the job" was a lift and some helping hands. Sorry I don't have more for you.
Did you look at post #6 and the posts above it?
Yes, that is why I posted the question asking if anyone had a photograph and/or steps required to access.
To get to the sensor, what has to come off, or is it merely crawling underneath or putting up on a car hoist and looking from below?
The OP sent me a PM saying in the end he took it to a workshop. For me, taking to a workshop involves a $200 ferry ticket and a day there and back, so I would rather DIY

There is more than one video showing the procedure on YouTube. The videos are mostly for diesel models but the work is not much difference for gas engines. Here are a couple of examples. This is not a "holy cr@p, what did I get into!?" job. Both of these dudes did it in their driveways!

There really is a big difference between the locations for petrol vs diesel.
I would say I spent half an hour doing various google searches before asking for help on this forum.
