I have a self-installed dash cam attached to the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. It's wired into the fuse box below the glove compartment and automatically turns on/off with the vehicle.
I just added a dash compass (only $4 on Temu) on the dash directly behind the steering wheel, set far back next to the windshield. It's attached to the dash surface with double-sided tape. Note that dash compasses (as well as some marine compasses) are reversed so the direction displayed to the driver is actually the direction of the vehicle moving forward. By comparison, the red needle on a standard dial compass always points to North.
The compass works well in this spot, but this location wasn't my first choice. Initially, I mounted it near the center of the dash. However, there is a large speaker grille there and the speaker magnet was too close to the compass to allow it to float freely. I figured that out pretty quickly when everywhere I drove was indicated as North/West
