Leaking vacuum pump after rebuild

Leaking vacuum pump after rebuild
The LR2 has been running great since the transmission valvebody replacement but now that the weather has been heating up, the vacuum pump sprung an intermittent oil leak. I put new aftermarket seals in it when I had it out but clearly they were either substandard or there is something else going on spiking pressure inside the crankcase and the vacuum pump is maybe the weakest link. So I bought a new set of Dorman seals that match the OEM double-lip design for the cover seal (the one I installed was a glorified o-ring) and will rebuild the pump again. I’m also going to replace the PCV valve and cover in case it’s the root cause of any crankcase pressure spikes. More to come but just wanted to post this as a public service to use good quality seals on that thing.

When I had mine replaced by a local independent shop, they used the Volvo rebuild kit 31401556.

5/5 Stars - Fits pump on Land Rover LR2

Part fits Land Rover LR2 2008-2012 with the 3.2 6cyl. Straight forward install that fixed a common oil leak developed at 85-90k miles (on mine). Consider replacing drive belt, idler pulley at the same time. This is a DIY job for sure. Land Rover would want to install a new pump for hundreds of dollars + labor.
LR2 NOTES: Disconnect MAF and disconnect intake pipe to airbox, remove airbox (pull up), remove front battery cover (4 clips). Optional - remove the whole battery for additional clearance (10mm battery leads, 4 8mm bolts). The pump is held by 2 10mm bolts and a bit of oil may come out. I found it easier to remove the pump prior to disconnecting the vacuum line. The pump nipple was difficult to remove; go slow carefully pry plastic tabs down w/ flathead and don't mar the aluminum tab. Pop in the replacement nipple... it fits tight with no play. Open the pump cover by loosening 5 T25 screws. Metal pick makes removing the seals a breeze. The seals (cover & gearing side) require a clean mating surface (brake cleaner and scrubber on cover, grooves, engine etc.) Reinstall all in reverse. Don't over tighten new torx screws, install in zig zag pattern slight turn past hand tight. Torque pump mounting bolts to 12-14 ft lbs ~17nm.
