LR2 Rear Differential

LR2 Rear Differential
Hello all. I'm looking into purchasing a 2008 Land Rover LR2. While doing my homework I came across the issues they have with the rear differential and frankly it spooked me. I'm kind of on the fence at the moment. For what it's worth the one I'm looking at it in great shape and has 110,000 miles. So I have two questions.
1) Is this as widespread of a problem as I'm hearing?
2) Most importantly, I've read that the same issue happens with Volvos, but that Volvo forces you to replace the entire differential unit whereas Land Rover has a protocol for only replacing the broken pieces which saves you thousands of dollars. Is this accurate? Is so, has anyone had this done and could you give me an idea of what it might cost?
Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated!!!

I’ve had mine for 10 years and 117,000 miles
i haven’t replaced my pinion bearing yet
as for cost the entire unit can be bought for less than $2000 if you search online
plus the cost of instillation
I do recommend upgrading the gear oil and using a magnet to collect the particles
link with more info

I would guess that an '08 with that many miles would have failed for sure long ago. There's a good chance the rear diff was already replaced once.
There are two version, and the newer one I think was used on later trucks and fixed the original issues. You can tell if you have the '08 original or the newer version by looking at it, there's a thread with pics somewhere on here.
