Default New (to me) 2013 LR2 HSE

Acquired my dad's gently used black on black LR2 with about 47000 miles on it. Drove it from Illinois to Texas and have been enjoying it. Few things I've noticed:
  • She is eager. It is very easy to drive briskly. Seems like you accelerate very slowly or very fast - hard to modulate in between. I like it.
  • Took me awhile to figure out that I can lower all windows by pressing and holding the unlock button on the key fob as I approached it. I did this out of habit from another car and happy to see this has that feature.
  • Happy to see I've got homelink on the rear view mirror and was able to program it.
  • I really like the stereo - it has a really good wound, nice highs and good bass.
  • Comfy seats and love the leather smell.
  • Love the heated steering wheel and seats.
  • Took a look at the owner's manual - the quick reference guide mentioned being able to hold both the left and right mirror buttons to have them fold but mine doesn't do that. Not sure if there is an issue - I am guessing I just don't have power folding mirrors.
Two problems:
  1. The sunroof mesh shade over the front seats - I think the clip or bracket has worn - when I close it, if I hit a bump or something, it unlatches and snaps back and scares the crap out of me. Anyone have a fix for that? Found a video on YouTube where someone with an LR3 fixed the middle row sunshade by adding layers of tape to "thicken" the clip - couldn't find info for an LR2.
  2. Speaking of sunroof shades - it gets a little hot and bright - has anyone replaced the mesh shades with solid ones or found shades they can put in there when they park the cars?
One last point -
- I like the slight lift kit and wheels and tires - not planning to do this now, but may consider it in the future.

Thanks.

The 2013 2.0T will be different than the 2008 3.2 in the way that it drives (The 3.2 six cylinder pulls away very smoothly)

You can move the gear lever to the right to enter SPORT MODE this should change how it drives from a standing start.

As for the sun shade my recommendation is don't use it. Instead replace it with window tint that blocks the Heat

I haven't done this one yet but I am thinking about it

As for the mirrors folding in for my 2008 Land Rover left the motors out for North America so it doesn't work. I don't know about the 2013.

The window lowering won't work on my 2008 so apparently Land Rover changed that for the 2013.

Thanks

Paul

I had my sunroof tinted and I'm happy with it. Before it was tinted, the sunlight coming through the roof was so bright that it washed out my console display so I could barely read it. I suspect that LR didn't consider this as it's probably foggy in the UK, unlike sunny California.

I hired a professional who visited me in his mobile truck to do the tinting. I was reluctant to try it myself because I've seen so many poorly done DIY jobs where it bubbles.

It obviously reduced the glare based on your experience

What about the heat?

I am also in Cali and it gets hot inside

Not on US cars. That would be to the left.

It helps on long drives when the sun is beating down on you. I was given the option of medium or darker tinting and I chose darker, so that would help the most with blocking heat. I don't remember all the details as this was back in 2012. I just looked up the receipt and I was charged $150 which was a fair price considering he drove to me. I just checked his website and his biz is still active, but you're south of his service area:

When I took my first drive after the tinting, I recall asking myself why I didn't have it done sooner.

I own two 3.2s with the same engine (and many shared parts)

2008 Land Rover LR2 3.2

2010 Volvo S80 3.2

The Volvo is to the right and the Land Rover is to the left. (That's why the Brits drive on the other side)

Note: I thought they were the same because they share so may parts and are very similar, but not for this.

Good catch

Where are we going .....Why are we here? .......Forget the question someone give me another Beer

Take care

Paul

My LR2 was used in Cali, it came with a sunroof tint. Even with the tint and shade pulled, I wear a hat on long road trips so I imagine it would brutal without the tint.

yeah, turbo lag.,. but when she kicks in... I actually like it.
With a little more time behind the wheel you’ll manage that just fine.

These ecoboost engines are very good, but not without their faults. (ramifications of direct injection) Do keep her clean. Change the oil frequently.

As for lifting her, see how you feel after installing oversized tires. That will give you a feel for the lift you’d still like to add. I went the simple way and merely added a 1 cm spacer at the top of the strut. Of course, be sure to get her re aligned.

I’ve been in all kinds of weather and all kinds of terrain. And while sitting in comfort, she drives like a dream.
My only regret is that due to the unibody construction, we are limited on tow capacity. But to be fair, the capacity is nicely matched with the engine capability.
Also, you may be surprised by the state of the power steering fluid. I was. Change that out too.
And lastly, be sure to change all the fluids in the entire drivetrain. And she will last a very long time.

I’ve had no issues with the drivetrain. I’ve learned from my engine mishap. She’s good for a long time.

Thanks for all the replies. @guy what engine mishap are you referring to? Thanks for the tip on the power steering and other fluids.
