OBD2 PID codes for LR2
I'm trying to display the transmission fluid temperature using my OBD2 scanner. Does anyone know the PID code I should enter? Or even better, does anyone have a list of PID codes for the LR2?
Been here before without any success.......the stock PID and a custom PID I got from a forum member elsewhere kept giving me the coolant temp. I use the Torque Pro app and I even emailed the developer without success. I purchased an Icarsoft LR2 2.0 scantool because you need transmission temp to set the proper level and it does not provide it (their customer support sucks BTW, reported problem as the tool was designed & marketed for DIYers and Land Rovers but after initially providing them software feedback, total "crickets") I don't recommend Icarsoft. I should have just used an external temp gun and skipped the Icarsoft scan tool.
Subbed JIC someone has the correct PID and are willing to share.

I have the Torque Pro app as well and the Trans Fluid Temp displays exactly the same as the Coolant Temp, just as you indicated. Makes you wonder what you can believe.
An external IR temp gun pointed at the pan would be good enough for a drain & fill service. But I want to monitor the temp while driving to check the health of my tranny.
It's possible the Trans Fluid Temp is in a different network than the standard OBD2 PIDs which are focused on emissions. These PID codes seem to be a dark secret that the car manufacturer's don't want to share.

I just purchased a new code scanner (Autel MaxiDiag MD808 Pro) as an upgrade to my basic OBD2 emissions scanner. This model is advertised to read all modules/codes from all vehicle makes (except the most exotic). I purchased this unit so I can use it on family cars which are a variety of brands.
I scanned my LR2 and was surprised to discover it has 27 modules! This includes all the major ones (ABS, Transmission) plus others for smaller things like the stereo and power seats.
My first interest was to check the Transmission Fluid Temperature which this scanner supports. It's in the Transmission module which my basic scanner cannot access. When the vehicle is warm, the fluid temp lingers around 165 degrees F, which sounds normal.
It's always good to know what normal looks like so you have a baseline to compare against when you're troubleshooting a problem in the future.

The LR service manual says the normal transmission fluid temp should be between 50-60C (122-140F). However, in general the recommended operating temperature range for transmission fluid should be between 175-220F. Anything higher and you start to turn the fluid into varnish and the transmission will soon give up the ghost if you run it that way for very long.
Yep, I see it. This is the temp range to check the level. I suspect they don't want you to check the level when it's hotter because the fluid may expand and give you an inaccurate result.
The normal operating temp is likely higher, as you indicated and I measured on my vehicle (although they don't specify in the manual).
