Default Rear lamp guard installation?

I recently ordered some rear lamp guards for my LR2. I thought they should just bolt on around the lights, but apparently not. I have the instructions, but I am not entirely sure i understand them. Do I have to drill into the light casing? If so, doesn't that pose a risk of getting condensation inside of the light housing?

Has anyone done this, and have any pointers or tips?

The templates are taped to the body of our vehicle then you drill the sheet metal. Take your time and make sure you have the correct tools before you start.

What tools are needed besides a drill with a 3mm and 7mm bit?

Default Tools

If you look at page one's tool list you'll see that you also need a Threaded Insert Tool. After drilling the holes, the inserts are installed and provided the threads to bolt the guards to the vehicle.

Northern Tools has one for $23 (Surebond Threaded Insert Tool).

Thanks the instructions I have do not have any written language, just pictures. I saw the picture of it, but did not know what tool that was. And with nothing to go on, it was a little hard to search for it.

I appreciate you letting me know.

You mentioned "templates". Are these supposed to come with the parts? Or is this something I create using tape?

They did come with the front guards, but not with the back. I will be taking it to a LR dealer to have them put on. (just so I can hold someone liable if something gets screwed up, if I screw it up, the only person I can blame is myself)

I am assuming that either you don't need templates for the rear, or that the dealer may have them. Has anyone else installed these? And is drilling into the sheet metal pose any problems down the line?
