Reduced Engine Performance/Low Coolant level
Hello,
I am new to the forum, I am having issues with my 2009 LR2 problem started with reduced engine and low coolant, took to the dealer and they came back with the diagnose that I might need a new engine after charging me $1551, changed the spark plugs, 1 engine coil, ignition coil at the end he said he couldn't figure out why engine 2,5 and 7 were mis-firing and the computer is showing internal problem. I picked it up took it my husband mechanic he cleaned out the coil and bunch of stuff check the engine cleared for about a week, then the low coolant level light came on filled it and in two days same errors message, check the engine light came back on with the reduced engine performance, engine back fired and Check engine started flashing..So not sure if the low coolant is related to the reduced engine performance. Please help I have spent almost 3k in trying to figure the problem. Someone said it might be the head gasket or the water is leaking into the engine. I am tempted to just give up but I love the little bugger

1. Avoid the dealer. I'm sure there's a decent one out there somewhere but the forum experiences (here and in the UK) are almost universally bad. JLR doesn't seem to care much about cars out of warranty and they don't seem to provide the dealers with adequate training, or enforce standards. Your story is par for the course... lots of money spent but nothing solved.
2. Try to find a good indie mechanic for UK or LR. You might be able to get an indie Volvo guy to to help with motor since it's a volvo motor
3. Is there any visible coolant leaking? Any puddles under the car? Look behind and under the battery area too (with a flashlight). Remove the metal splash guard under the engine and check that for leaks if you can (it's just six bolts and you don't need to jack the car, although it's a tight squeeze without jacking).
If you can't find any coolant, you may have an internal engine problem, likely a head gasket. A failed cooling fan or or thermostat can overheat the engine (esp the head) and damage things. The coils do tend to fail if the head gets too hot, so that's a possible hint.
If the coolant is leaking into a cylinder(s) that could cause performance issues. The good news is a bad head gasket should not require a new motor, but I wouldn't drive it any more until you get it fixed.

Your Engine is an inline 6 cylinder not a V8 there is no cylinder #7
(I would ask for a refund for the diagnosis charge)
A flashing Check Engine Light means that you have a misfire that will damage the Catalytic converter if you drive it with the light flashing.
Ask your husband to scan the codes and post the actual codes (every code even ones that are pending)
As for the low coolant. It may not be related to the problem at all.
Check the Oil on the dipstick and on the oil fill cap. Any sign of Chocolate milk?
We can help more when we have the specific codes.
Take Care

Sorry guys, this doesn’t look legit to me.
First time poster. A fictional story about a dealer and, the 7th cylinder, lol.
Let alone replacing parts THEN the story of needing a new engine.
Nope, we’ve been duped. A sad reflection of society, really. Good honest people volleying to be helpful being played by the non self respecting sort.

I really wouldn't wait my time or breath responding to you because you're not worth it.
People like you give good honest people bad names

Towed it to a local mechanic. I will ask for the code and post it.
Much appreciated
