Default Rim sizes

One thing I still don't have a handle on is the relationship between tire and wheel sizes. My LR2 has 235/60R18 tires. The original rims are tired and I don't want to pay to recondition them, I'd rather switch to plain matte black wheels, minimalistic. I don't like bling on my car. So which rim size should I be looking for?

Land Rover Freelander 2 3,2L

16x7.0 55 5x108 215/75R16
17x7.5 55 5x108 235/65R17
18x8.0 55 5x108 235/60R18
19x8.0 55 5x108 235/55R19

Note: as you get smaller the wheel may not fit over the brakes (the 3.2 has bigger brakes than the Diesel)

If you look in the trunk the spare wheel should be a 17"

You could buy three more of those (new will be expensive, look for used)

Note: I think later LR2 have a 18" spare so confirm what you are getting

good luck

Paul

I run 245/55R19 on Ford Edge rims with summer tires, 2019 year class I believe. Offsets a little different but they work without issue. My winter wheels are the stock 18" LR.

Good info there for future reference @p_gill

And then you might like to have fun. I prefer my SUV look like a truck as opposed to a road warrior. So I prefer higher profile tires on smaller rims.
To guide you down this path have a look at this:
https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/
With the size of that wheel well and the stock height of the vehicle, a larger tire suits it well.
My winter’s are on 16s.
My summer’s on 18s.

BTW, as opposed to setting the “fender clearance” sizing on the form, use the “distance to bottom of strut”. as on our vehicles its the strut that gets in the way. But to give you an idea of how large you can go, my summers are Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain, 265/60 18! As the bottom of the strut is a fixed distance from the axle…. you can get pretty close to it.

I’ve got the largest summer tires I can fit and a somewhat larger then spec winter tires.
I do some mild off roading on my brother’s property, to get to a camp spot or a fishing hole or to lay the lines for the maple run. Its terrain like VT or ME.
And like your weather, we have snow, freezing rain, and more snow, then... you get the idea. So the better gripping (aggressive tread pattern) winter off road tires with walnut shells in the compound suit me better.

Will any rim that is 18x8 fit on the LR2? Are the bolt patterns standardized?

<flip... flip...>

Oh. Wheel offset. Ok, now to see who might have the wheel type I want, like the ones on police interceptors in matte black. No spokes, no other BS...

Ok, so 18x8 is not enough, the 5x108 refers to the bolt hole pattern and it also must match. What does the 55 mean?

My spare looks like this (and I think that 4 of these would look nice on the LR2

Just remove the stupid sticker that says 50 MPH or whatever

I agree, the problem is finding them in 18x8 5x108 55. I already have a set of regular Hankook's and Nokian Hoolapalooza 7 (or some crap like that) brand new studded winter tires 235/60r18 and I have no interest in buying more tires. One would think that it would be easier to find these inexpensive, plain rims, especially with how common they are on law enforcement rides. Maybe if I hang out at the local donut shop...

(My old friend Walter just cracked up in his box and yelled "Ha! Dat there's funny!")

So I purchased Nokian studded winter tires and found a place that will rejuvenate and powder coats my wheels in black, mount the new tires and balance them. Taking it in today, can't wait to see what it looks like when it comes out!
