Default series IIa

Ive just purchased a series IIa diesel landrover, it has been stood parked up for three years, now im no mechanic but im keen to learn and put this old girl back on the road.

It is listed as a 1964, where it was used by the MOD, short wheel base. It was the registered in 1974 thus has had 2 owners prior to me.

I have registered it as SORN to do work on it. I put £10 worth of diesel in, put in a brand new battery and turned the key...... she seems to want to start and turns over but thats it. The clutch peddle is all play and the gears change without it. Ive been told the clutch plate is stuck.

So simply I have a lovely restoration project though I appreciate the chasis has proberly got more patches than any quilt Ive ever seen but generally it seems in good nick.
I need advice on how I can make this historic vehicle fire up again. What should I be doing to get it working?

if a desiel cranks, and gets fuel, it really aught to fire. are the glow plugs getting power? is it getting fuel? you can try some ether to kick it over, but be careful if you dont know what youre doing with it. any decent mechanic that knows desiels can figure it out for you. those are from the time before land rovers became scary for the average mechanic
