Default Terrain Response - what it does?

I have recently had a chance to use terrain response system on the easy-to-medium-difficulty off-road trip and was really impressed by it's capabilities. However I couldn't find any details of what it does and how.
Is there any technical explanation of the details of the different modes?

the different modes are basicly just different programs for the abs, traction control, engine mapping, trans shifting, and on the lr2 the haldex unit. for example, when you select grass/gravel/snow, the engine will detorque itself, changes ignition timing... the traction control will become slightly less sensitive at take off, and much more so when moving... the abs is much more sensitive, the transmission starts off in second gear, and doesnt lock the torque convertor nearly as fast, also has shifts at lower trans pressures, and the rear diff, haldex, will precharge itself so that youre essentially locked front and rear. its a very complicated system, yet it doesnt really do anything, just tells other systems what to do. and yes, it is good. next time you get a few inches of snow, select it, and find a open parking lot, and try and lose control of it, its hard to do.

I'm little too far from the snow - in California, it's hard to find a real snow but easy to find either sand or gravel
I have read about Haldex unit thus there is little information about rear diff and also nothing about front unit - do we have anything in front (LSD)? During my offroad trip I have seen on display some interesting indication showing either straight or rotated wheels with steering wheel in the middle. I suspect it shows something about power distribution between front wheels also, and not only rear.
Again - I was really impressed how it worked, just curious what it does and what it's capable of

well, not really, both front and rear diffs are open. the haldex unit can lock the front to the rear, what youre seeing on the display shows you wheel angle, which is very useful if youre driving in mud ruts. but the traction control takes up for the non locking diffs, and it really does, not like on the disco2.
