Default tires

I have a 2008 LR2. I need to replace my tires...should I stick with the factory tires or move on to something else?

Get a set of 17 or 18 inch wheels and try a set of Michelins. Or you can try whatever you like but do your research first. The 19 inch Continentals that came on my LR2 are c@#p, and the I don't have a large variety of All Terrain tires because of the 19 inch wheels

Default LR2 Tires

After extensive searching and research I just replaced my Continental OEMs with Michelin Primacy MXV4s - 235-60-R18. The Continentals are OK but have terrible tread life and absolutely no ability on ice or snow. The MXV4s have a lower speed and load rating but for my purposes they fit the bill. I am not driving over 118mph and I am not towing anything. Plus they have excellent reviews and a long warranty.
Check out the survey information here

I have only driven on them for about 500 miles so far but I am completely impressed. The ride is so much better than the continentals. Why Land Rover puts soft summer street tires on their LR2s is beyond me.
Hope this helps
G

Thanks!

I talked to my tire guy (tire discounters) and he thinks that the Michelin Primacy MXV4s might be a good tire but that it does not offer enough sidewall support providing a shimmer at highway speeds.

What do you think of Yokohama AVID ENVigor?

Maybe I should bite the bullet and go with the Michelin Pilot MXM4.

Still processing...please help.

Default LR2 Tires

The Michelin Primacy MXV4s - 235-60-R18 have a 102T rating that is about 82 lbs less than the OEM Conti tires for load. So in theory, the sidewalls could be in jeopardy during extremely heavy braking scenarios where vehicle weight is shifted to the front two wheels. This was a trade off I made in order to get longer tread life, better ride, and snow / ice capability. I have had no other problems with the tire. No shimmer or vibrations at fast highway speeds.

Like many have reported on this forum and elsewhere, finding good replacement tires with a good tread life and all season capability for the LR2 is very difficult. It seems there are trade offs no matter how you go about it.

As mentioned in my slightly earlier post, I am considering the Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires. Good reviews - the speed rating is the same as the OEM's and it is just the load rating that is reduced. Decent price too.

Cool Try these tires

I have replaced the factory tires with nitto terra-grapplers. I went one size larger. I have had excellent luck with these on road and off road. And might I mention that in northwest indiana driving 35 miles one way to work, the ability on snow is ..... i dont really know how to describe it. But I can tell you that I outfitted my 2007 F-150 with 35" terra grapplers.

Default Nitto

I went with the 255/55 18 . After checking with everybody else this was the only one to really consider. They are rated at 2271 at 55PSI. Yes that may seem like a lot of air pressure but with 20k mile they are really great. As i mentioned on my F-150 I added a lift kit and put on 35" terra grappler's. They seem to hold up in all weather conditions and with the built in siping the winter traction is AMAZING. most offroad tirres suck in the snow these dont. Eailer this year michigan city got snowed in and i went out in the LR2 and had a blast in the deep snow. The truck was even more fun with the extra lift and tires I was able to go places noone else could.

Default nitto terra-grappler

fsufan, do you find the 255 size rubbing at all. My LR2 is a daily commuter, mostly for my wife. I was led to these tires for my RR P38, but it isn't in need of new rubber yet. It seems like my LR2 is always in need of tires. I'm on my third set in <60,000 and need new tires for this winter. I'm just a little skeptical of changing sizes.
