Trouble Code P0087
So today I got in my 2008 LR2 SE... It cranked with a no start 3 times then started. While driving it died 3 more time before getting home with a check engine light. I scanned it and got code p0087 low fuel rail pressure. I come up with 55psi while at idle rpm when I had the scanner monitoring it. I am assuming that the fuel pump in giving me a warning that it is ready to fail? I have about 111k miles on it. What is the normal life/milage range for the fuel pump?

That's probably caused by a bad fuel pressure sensor.
Easy 5-minute DIY replacement, there's a how-to somewhere on this site. You just unplug it and remove a small bolt (put some rags under to catch the fuel that will spill out.
That part will fail eventually anyway, so it won't hurt to replace it even if the problem is something else. But your symptoms are right for that sensor.

I shouyld also add... When it started after the 3 or 4 cranking cycles and while I was driving down the road before it would actually die it seemed like the gas pedal didnt have any effect on rpms. Just a total flat response. One time it didnt actually die but I shut it off and restarted it and it appeared to be fine after that on the rest of the way home. Would the regulator actually vary that much to make it run flat/no response? I am thinking that Ill brave a short drive and watch the live data stream in hopes to catch a "glitch" revealing a drop in fuel pressure or.... ?

Ok so I did the reset and went for a drive with scanner to watch the data stream.
Ambient temp 61 degrees
Fuel pressure at idle 53/55psi
Fuel pressure at 40mph 49psi
After shut down hot restart fuel pressure at 60 psi for the first min or so then drops to 53/55psi
After shut down fuel pressure holds at about 37 psi for several mins
