Former Disco 2 owner looking to pick up an LR3. Started the search locally (SF) and am surprised by the prices of examples with 100k-150k miles (here and here).

Now these both look like very nice trucks, with a good amount of maintenance done, but still expected prices to be closer to $10k.

Am I off base? Has scarcity driven prices higher?

 

...so if well maintained the price doesn't surprise me. Prices of all used cars are up and the LR3 is becoming more coveted.

 

I only paid $4K for my 2007 HSE with 105k miles, but it had dead suspension, bad A/C, and a cold-start knock. I have about $14k total in it now, and that's with me doing ALL the labor. I fixed essentially everything I thought could go wrong for my daughter to use it while she's off to college. If those examples are truly in good shape, seems about right to me.

 

LR3s have been overlooked for a while and have been relative bargains. Prices for LR3 have definitely trended up, but they are still surprisingly good value (IMO).

The condition of used Land Rovers varies wildly, and the prices mimic this to a lesser extent. If you are patient, you can find a well optioned and maintained example for a few grand beyond a bad one. Here’s what I’ve seen from watching the West Coast market:

$15k+ generally gets a built rig, if the mods suit you it could be a good deal

$10-15k, well maintained and stock, I’d expect <150k miles, closer to 100-120k, no problems

$6-10k, mostly stock runner with some moderate problems or very high mileage (I see a lot of 4.4L v8 with north of 200k)

sub-$6k — major problems or some other unique circumstance; expect a bad engine or transmission, lots of deferred maintenance, etc

 

Sounds about right. I bought my '06 in 2019, for $4700. It needed some love. New shocks all the way around. A front valve block. A new dryer. Sunroof drain repaired and windshield cowl. Heated seat pad. A few trim pieces like seat handles.....tailgate cable. So mostly little stuff....pretty much a bargain for $4700 and having 186k on the odo. Runs like a top now.

 

Cool, thanks for all the info everyone. I agree that a really well-kept LR3 is a pretty good deal at $10-$15k when compared to brand new trucks for $50k-$70k.
