Default 08 LR3 SE Pricing Question

Hey all,

Looking to potentially purchase a 2008 LR3 SE in great to excellent condition, 180,040 miles, meticulous maintenance records, no rust. It includes the following from the listing:

"Full list of maintenance available on request showing work done, including suspension, A/C, LCAs, TREs, rear diff, bushings, windscreen, cowl, too much to list here. Buyer gets paper copies of service records and a spreadsheet documenting everything done, when, and at what mileage – this is the complete service history you dream of when looking for a used vehicle. I just bought another Rover and need to make room for it.

The good:
  • Excellent shape for its age.
  • 4.4 engine is strong, smooth, and quiet. Oil changed at 5,000 mile intervals with factory spec 5W30.
  • Air suspension works perfectly.
  • Cooper 265/65/18 AT tires with full size spare on matching wheel.
  • Factory roof rack and lamp guards.
  • HVAC all works perfectly.
  • Cold climate package.

The bad:
  • Intermittent P0420 fault for catalytic bank 2 operating below threshold. Indie Rover tech advises this is not an issue and told me to live with it.
  • Driver’s heated seat doesn’t work.
  • Typical cracked leather on side of driver’s seat.
  • Typical cracked dash.

Included with asking price:
  • GAP iid tool (buyer will need to re-register)
  • Factory tow hitch
  • Travall dog barrier
  • Emergency roadside equipment kit
  • OEM Expedition Roof Rack and Lamp Guards"
Seller is requesting $9,000. Is that ballpark what these are going for now?

Hard to gauge looking at CarGurus, Autotrader, etc. as there are some for sale with 130-150K miles for $4,500-6,000. Probably not as many records on those examples, but wondering if that pricing is accurate. KBB is more in-line with the CarGurus and other examples mentioned. Would love any insights. Thanks!

Send pictures! This one I posted about above is actually my old LR3 that I sold in 2019 when we moved back to the midwest from Seattle, bit of nostalgia tied to it, haha!

Hahahahahaha.....you buying it (back) from Nick?

Damn it's a small world!

I wouldn't worry about the fault code. I have that one on a recently purchased 2007 (also white) and yeah it's fine.

Ha! @houm_wa potentially! Haven't heard back yet... Give him a nudge for me! Just saw the listing on Expedition Portal and said to myself, "I'm pretty sure thats our old LR3?!". Super small world... I am almost certain I purchased a set of BFG's from you while I was living in Seattle. Love how this forum brings so many different folks together!

I've never run BFGs on my LR3 or sold any, but maybe someone I know! I sold some GY MT/Rs in 2018.....agree on the forum though; it brings many of us together. I've made some good friends whom I knew on the forum before I ever knew in-person. Anyway, this is a tough decision. $9k isn't cheap but the GAP Tool and OE roof rack account for over $2000 alone, so, there's that.

Default Price is relative.

I think pricing our LR3 has to be based on maintenance and potential cost of big ticket items based on wear, tear and mileage. $3,000 for 180,000 with no maintenance history IMO is seriously expensive. $9,000 for 180,000, well maintained with service records is a promising prospect.

I bought my 2006 LR3 SE from a Nissan dealer last year for $8,900. 75,000 miles, extensive service history. Two owner CA and CO car, so pretty much rust free. I think I did well/got lucky but the suspension is original, the AC hums (maybe just a recharge...or maybe not..) and just due to age, especially rubber parts, I suspect I will be spending more than a few hours under the truck this summer.

Your truck has more than twice the miles mine has, for the same money but a decent amount of work has been done and it sounds like it's been well looked after. I think if you didn't have the records for the regular oil changes, I'd probably walk away at that mileage but it sounds like the engine is strong and regularly maintained. I don't recall if you mentioned transmission service history, but that would be the only cause for pause for me if it's possible the fluid and filter were original. Others can speak with more authority on issues with higher mileage ZF transmissions.
