Default 2005 lr3

I’m the original owner of my 2005 LR3 88,000 miles mint condition
Recently my radio when used in the AUX mode
switches on its own to FM and some times the CD player modes.Once it does this there is no control of the radio at all or any of its functions until I shut down and remove the key and restart the engine.Sometimes it resets and sometimes it takes longer to go back to normal operation.
this is the best I can do to explain.
is this a radio malfunction or some other computer which is controlling the radio?Would I be wasting my money if I purchased a new OEM radio?
Any diagnostic help would be appreciated.

Default

Mine did that occasionally then failed to read discs so it was replaced with an android unit, if you are happy with the factory unit then a 2nd hand one is the easiest option. I would not buy new even if you can find one ,it will probably be cheaper to upgrade it to something modern.
