Default 2006 LR3 113k help!

LR3 Community,

I have always had Disco's as fun toys. Cutting to the chase, a local private seller has an 06 LR3 HSE with 113k miles. He wanted $6000 for it, but I offered $5500. I drove it tonight, and it seems solid. The only issues I see are a brake sensor light on, cracked dash, and non functioning sunroof. I found a receipt in the glove box from the previous owner for $1000 on control arms etc.

My DD is a 2018 Audi A6 Quattro. We are expecting a child in April (our first), and I wanted something I can run around with the dogs, the baby, and my wife. My Disco isn't reliable enough for me to trust any of those parties (besides the dogs). Anyway, the truck drives like it's on rails. I really like it. I was planning on pulling the trigger tomorrow. I know this brand and fully anticipate stuff to break and cost $500 - $1000. With that being said below are a few questions:

1. How reliable are these? I don't want to be on the interstate with new baby and wife waiting for AAA regularly.

2. How much of a money pit are LR3's?

3. What are common issues that will leave me stranded?

4. Is this autobox and motor as stout as the Disco?

Thanks!

Devon

1. They are not a Toyota but they are very reliable. I have no issues withy wife and daughter doing runs from Georgia to Ohio to visit family. Just like all other Rovers do your maintenance and fix stuff when it breaks instead of putting it off.

2. If you are keeping it stock and just driving it not really a money pit at all. Parts aren't bad price wise. Fairly straightforward to work on yourself. Big spend will be buying the Gap IID tool.

3. Nothing really, maybe a brake light switch?

4. Both are solid performing units just maintenance do your fluid and filter changes.

Brake Light Switch won't even leave you stranded. Cycle Power, pull fuse F26 and drive home.

I bet the sunroof just needs a calibration to work again. Hold switch in close position for about 20 seconds and keep holding until it fully opens and closes.

Sensor light is probably just from not replacing the leads during pad replacement, a simple pad check then cut and join the wires will turn that off.
