Default 2006 LR3 Clutch Position Sensor Problem

2006 LR3 121k miles Locking Rear Diff
Replaced alternator and that works fine. But I get Transmission errors on startup and dash saying traction control reduced but no red lights.
Run the Gap tool and get to faults.... Rear Diff - Clutch position sensor - circuit range performance AND Rear Diff - clutch position sensor is not learnt ,,
See pic

What does that mean and what to do? Is it safe to drive?
ok, no laughing.... but what in the heck did I find in my driveway? See pics of pin and spring.
Thinking something fell off my aging car found between my LR3 and LR2. Perhaps a rear diff clutch position sensor

It means your rear locking diff needs a software update and likely a new locking actuator assembly. You can drive it, but its possible that the clutches in the rear diff are engaged and thus could wear out fast under regular driving conditions. Or they are not stuck in an engaged position and you are fine. Either way, its generally means you need to repair it.

Your mechanic should fix it, he messed it up.

Dakota is correct.... He should fix it.
My part was the hex shaped 'plunger' that somehow came off. I think this is specific to a locking rear diff but not sure. Dakota posted a great cut-away of a locking diff.
fyi, I replaced my diff... Thinking you situation is a bit different. Let us know
