Default 2006 LR3 not starting

So I did something rather foolish today. I tried replacing my 2006 LR3 speedo cluster with a different used cluster as my speaker for turn signals and other chimes was no longer working. The vehicle would then not start as it obviously did not recognize this other gauge cluster. I pulled it back out and put the old back in but it is not recognizing the original one now either, and not only not starting, but flashing different error codes and then just goes blank. I disconnected the battery cables and have them clamped together to see if that will clear it. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

You need a proper tool, like a GAP IID tool, in order to sync clusters I believe. And cluster swaps should be done with battery disconnected during the procedure.

I think you are right, and I have since read in other posts that you cannot sync a used cluster from another car, it has to be a new cluster that has not been programmed to a vehicle yet.
But the good news is that I also read, "Check the battery!" as in, make sure it is charged! When I read things like that, i am always reminded of what my Dad used to say, "its probably something simple, start with the most simple thing first and work from there. Well, the battery for some reason was dead and after removing the "new" used cluster and putting the old one back in and recharging the battery,
It started right up! And, before i put the old cluster back in, I found a lovely post showing exactly how to solder in a new speaker for the chimes, turn signals etc and I did it and it worked! So now my son has turn signal sound, seat belt reminder, light reminder and any other chime. Now the only thing I need to sort out is that for some reason, probably a security issue, after I put the old speedo cluster back in and started up, the radio and information system are not being recognized and thus not working. Need to do a search on that one.

99.9% sure you can sync a used cluster. But also, if I recall, you have a pull something from the back of your original and swap with the replacement?

Now that I think about it, the thing to swap may have been a BMW thing... Anyway...
