Default 2006 LR3 Transmission Failure

After driving from Colorado to Dallas Texas which is 800 miles with no issues i stopped to wash the LR3, i could not get the vehicle out of park without taking the top of the console off and pressing the release button. I had a bid "F" and a indication saying that there was a transmission failure and limited gears were available. i was able to take it to a shop to get checked and they said it needs a new transmission, as i do not know this shop and i have had not problems leading up to this failure i found that surprising. I took the car to the people i was visiting and left it there. My question is does this sound like a catastrophic transmission failure or could it be something else?

Thanks.

Did you was the engine bay? Kinda of funny that it seemed to stop working after the wash. Start cheap. Brake light switch, recently changed bulbs, and battery voltage? Pretty sure there are some rover club members down that way. Good luck

Unless there's more to the story I'm hesitant to think the whole tranny just let go with no warning. 2nd opinion time?

FOR SURE 2nd opinion! There is a whole lot more trouble-shooting to do before you throw the towel in on the tranny. I'd bet it can be solved with an ECU change or another component. There have been very few (if any) wholesale tranny-swaps reported.

Default Component that gets wet and "fails"

I am not an expert. However, I read in this forum I think, that there is some component for the transmission, right next to it that gets wet from the A/C drain and it tends to oxidize and loose electrical contact. I have read that it can be removed, disassembled, cleaned, coated, and reassembled, and transmission starts operating normally again.

Search this and other forums. I do not recall where was I when I read about it.

Good Luck.

I believe you're thinking of the DII (?). I can't think of anything quite like that on the LR3.

You might be right that I might be thinking about the D2!
