2006 SE engine swap project - what is your opinion?
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if I could get your opinion on purchasing a 2006 SE as a project.
The timing chain snapped on the engine and I was thinking of purchasing it and swapping the engine.
The dealer has offered the seller 3500$ CAD and she wants to get whatever she can - it is listed for 5000$.
It has 160,000 km.
A friend and I would do the work - we are both mechanically inclined and have swapped engines on two cars in the past.
We are electrical / mechanical engineering students and part of this is for the learning experience, CAN bus experimentation, fun project, etc.
What are your thoughts?
Cheers

So here is the result of going to see it.
It was used as some sort of construction work truck - I don't understand some people.
After 2 weeks with a dead battery, the air bags have deflated.
Used engine (engine: 4000$, parts: 1000$): 5000$
New air suspension / leaking air lines: 1100$ per corner
Compressor will fail soon as it had to cope with leaking suspension: 1000$
Rear seat buckle: 250$
New front fender guard
New windshield: 1200$
Misc interior repairs
Engine bay wiring fixing (random 20A fuse holder and random wire found in engine bay)
Sunroof leaking repair in passenger side - Wiring harness inspection under the passenger floor mat due to the water
Rear door gasket torn
This seems like a lot of nickle and timing to get this LR3 nice again.
