Default 2008 LR3 Alternatr

The battery light on my 2008 LR3 came on. Tested the alternator and it is producing 13.3 Volts.

My question is what alternator to buy. My mechanic, I could do this myself but just don't have the time right now, says that the dealer wants $1100, Atlantic British $400, and O'Reilly's $200.

Thoughts? Past experience?

Thanks.

Alternator was replaced with one from OReilly's. Charging well over 14 volts so all is good there. However, battery light did not go off and still getting test fault.

Thoughts?

Have the Battery load tested, and check all your grounds for corrosion

The issue is that everything checks out fine. But getting error code. Probably erroneous..

Anyone else have the issue of the battery light staying on after an alternator replacement? Getting over 14 Volts

I am trying to decide if I should replace this one with the $400 one from Atlantic British.

Thanks,

Did you break the connector on the back of the alternator? I plan to replace mine so I actually picked up a spare connector. They are very brittle from age/engine heat. If you broke it, it may have fallen out. Although I think exciter voltage also runs through it so I would expect low voltage then too. But its something to look at.

When I replaced my alternator proactively last week before big trip, the back connector had to be twisted as the release tab on the new unit was reversed meaning push tab is on top now and was on the bottom and hard to reach. i don't know why Denso changed that design as twisting old brittle wire harness is kind of risky. I had to release wire harness from near mounting chassis clip as it obviously broke. Basically almost everything that I touch now in regards to old clips breaks. After all it has been sitting in metal for 14 years.

I don’t think the design was changed. The LR3 has two alternator designs, at least on the 4.4. If not paying attention to the model year it’s possible to buy the wrong one.

I recently installed a $220
one from Amazon and works fine. I recommend you get one of those cheap gauges that plugs into your cigarette lighter so you know exactly what the electrical output is.
