Using the factory tracks and cross bars I would like to be able to have a wider spread between the bars. As the factory cross bars can only lock into set positions where there are cutouts I am wondering about making an additional set of cutouts near the rear of the tracks. There is already the option to lock the front bar near the front end of the track but for some reason the rear most notch seems like a good 6" forward from the rear of the track. I would think that it should be a pretty straight forward process to take a Dremel with cutoff wheel to make an additional notch further back on the track. As long as proper measurements are made for the size of the notch, can anyone think why it can't/shouldn't be done? Even with the top hatch raised, it would not interfere with a crossbar positioned further back in the track.
