Default Air suspension goes up but compressor running non-stop - Red Indicator before startup

Well, bought this thing today on a whim. Funny since just yesterday I got my D2 running with my new LS motor swapped in but that's unrelated ha!

So I put a fuse in it and the pump starts running, the suspension rises rear first, then front. I suspect this is normal and some kind of safety situation. However, at all times there's a red light that appears to indicate a photo of a Rover with arrows pointing that it's prone to roll over and an up arrow meaning related to suspension lift. Makes sense. Maybe it has some kind of anti-sway air assist for cornering like the D2 ACE system I figure.

So now I'm wondering, why does this compressor run almost all the time with only a few second break here and there? The suspension seems to stay inflated at least most of the day so far. I suspect there's a air tank it's trying to fill that is leaking but then it's a little odd that the shocks were able to inflate if they're in line after the tank but maybe I'm mistaken. I'd think it's sensor related though sense it has that red light on at all times. My general bluetooth ODBII reader app that usually shows EVERYTHING for other vehicles shows nothing wrong on this vehicle, naturally.

1. How long should the tank take to fill? The shocks expanded after just a couple minutes. I don't want to let the compressor run until it dies of course but I don't know it's volume capability nor the tank size.

2. What's my next trouble shooting steps???

3. Ok to pull a fuse and drive it around so long as it stays pumped up a while? Which fuse should I pull to accomplish this?

Thanks fellas!
-Greg

MY 2005 HSE was doing that after I swapped out my compressor and relay. I got some assistance from this forum, thanks again. I did a few things. 1. Pull the relay, it is in the engine compartment fuse box, next to the battery. 2. Disconnect the battery for an hour or more. Once I reconnected everything, the non-stop compressor started to act normally. The new compressor seems louder than the old one, I can live with that. The compressor/system discharges air after the truck is shut off. I don't recall it doing that before the compressor replacement. Best of luck. Phil

Interesting, I'll give this a shot today! Thank you!!!!

EDIT>>>> No luck, upon installing the relay and hooking the battery up, soon as I turned the key to ignition, prior to even starting the engine, the red light was on and stayed on and the compressor ran 95% of the time for 5 minutes straight. It paused the compressor and lifted the rear and then front after about 3 min though, same as before.

If it matters, I do NOT get the 30mph warning even when they were deflated fully from sitting a couple months prior to purchase. This makes me wonder if the Rover doesn't know the vehicle height it's at, maybe that's why the compressor is running all the time and why the red light comes on even before starting the vehicle?

Do you have any way to read the codes? I have had issues with my air suspension and having the gap tool has been indispensable for understanding what is going on. From my understanding the compressor should run for a short time on startup, 30 sec or so and then only infrequently as needed. Starting from an empty system I can confirm takes forever.

I have ordered this>>>>>>iCarsoft LR II Compatible for LandRover/Jaguar OBD II Scanner Tool Multi Systems ABS SRS Oil Reset DPF

It arrives tomorrow. Otherwise my other readers pull no codes from it. I'm hoping this tool will tell me what I need to know. My pump is VERY loud I've noticed, is that normal? It's much louder than the engine, it earns looks from folks on the sidewalk if it's on in my neighborhood as I drive by. Maybe normal depending on Hitachi/Amc brands etc.? Maybe I should be ordering the GAP tool instead but ugh, so expensive for a car with high miles that isn't very reliable already.

It certainly airs up the shocks quickly, from completely lowered on the bump stops to inflation in just about 4 minutes but then my problem is it keeps running. At no point does the red suspension light ever turn off unless the key is removed.

A loud air compressor can be a failing compressor, a broken mount caddy or bushings that hold the compressor are shot.

It might have been 3 minutes? Folks were talking about up to 15 min from a completely empty tank so it seemed like under 5 min was fast. No idea though. Only owned this a few days.

Tomorrow my scanner will be in and I'll post what codes I have, maybe you experts on this kind of thing can give some direction once I've some better info to give.

I've never really timed it but well under 10 seconds sounds more correct.

Also, any other indications or faults or just the EAS icon?
Pull fuse F26 and you should be fine driving around.

Caddy looks good. Nicely floating in it's little home. As for the internals.... maybe another story.
