Default Anyone use this oil?

I saw this at Walmart the other day and was curious to see if anyone had used it.

That's what I use no problems with it here. I also use a wix filter. I use the recommended 5w30 though.

Castrol EDGE used to be called Castrol Syntec (which is OEM spec)

I buy those 5qt jugs from walmart too, but only in 5w-30. Good oil, I mean it is the exact type specified by LR.

No problems the last 40k miles. 10/10 would encourage its use. I use the K&N filters.

Ive only used it once as it was damn near free with coupons and such. Seemed to be used by my LR3 a slight bit more than my usual Rotella T6. I also use the K&N oil filters.

How much oil do you use between changes and how often do you change it?

I change oil about every 4500 to 5000. i know that is early, but as some else on this site (possibly bbyer) has said, no one ever regrets changing oil too often. It seemed like the Castrol used a little more than half a court. usually the Rotella is less than that. However, I am told my PCV is bad and will be replacing that this week.

I use Castrol 5/30 conventional oil. No leaks and no belching in strange places that I would get with synthetic. Just changed oil and filter and reset the limit for 6000 miles. That makes the next change at about 126000 miles.

With the EDGE my change cycle is 7000 miles.

Maybe add 200-400mL, but honestly the K&N is larger than stock for an oil filter so I suspect some of that added oil is just accounting for that volume

I actually did, as I was in a pinch and thought they'd at least have the German Castrol stuff 5w30, but no.

Theoretically speaking this should have the same (and more) range though. This IS the "Made in Germany" stuff right?

I think only one of those Walmart Castrol Edge products is actually made in Germany.

Anyways it seemed to sheer out in high temperatures - not sure how to put a finger on it, but the engine was a little bit louder (high frequency noises, aka friction sources) normal oil usage (actually this thing really doesn't burn any oil). But I was definitely happy to change it out.

I've been through this game with a number of vehicles including my M3 and my girlfriends 2005 turbo diesel Jeep Liberty (specs 0w40 Mobil 1 synthetic?!) and I'm routinely disappointed with the popular products aka Castrol and Mobil1. I've seen 15w50 M1 sheer out to water when they went to the "Extended Performance" POS gold cap blend.

The only oils I've ALWAYS been happy with are;
Shell Rotella T6 - awesome in my 17-year-old DII, AND gf's 05 Jeep w/ VM Motori 2.8 turbo diesel. Definitely a HEAVY duty oil with great zinc content for older / flat tappet and pushrod engines.

Lubro Moly (LiquiMoly) - ALL oils. When the M1 15w50 turned to water in my M5, I threw in Lubro Moly 10w40 and ALL my chain and valvetrain noise totally vanished at 100k miles. Never sheered out either.

I FINALLY used this stuff again in my LR3 last oil change, and the engine is quiet, zero oil consumption, etc..

Almost everything they have is a certified Group IV full synthetic oil, no hydrocracked / conventional group III, PAOs etc.. it's very pure. The Germans also have ridiculous (relatively speaking) controls on what you're allowed to label - it HAS to hold up to implied performance and purity marks or you can basically be locked up lol. Same goes for German beers though, FWIW.
