Default ASFIR Skid Plate - 1st Upgrade

First upgrade of the year....

Bittersweet day...skid plate came and found out my water heater broke....great...

Moving on....I purchased the last skid plate they had in stock. All I can say about ASFIR, they have been great! I needed the plate for our trip next week and they made sure it got here today.

Gong to try install it tonight, but I am bummed about my water heater. Going to Home Depot to see if I can upgrade to a tankless system, or just replace the 80G tank....hummm.

Pictures out of the box..

Where do each of these mount exactly?

From under the front bumper to back of the engine. It uses all the stock mounting locations.

Okay, it is on but I couldn't take any pics. I cant find my PHONE!!!!!!

It took about 30 minutes to install. It looks pretty...but, just looking at the finished product, I will have to remove it every time I change the oil.....PITA!

Looks nice. I'd love to see a pic installed. Did your LR3 have a skid plate before, since you referenced stock mounting locations?

I wonder What they are talking about on their website when they say "Service openings in the skid plates enable servicing the vehicle without removal?" Thanks

From the pics in this thread, an oil change is not possible with these plates. I'd like to know what service is possible too...

With the LR3's sideways oil drain it is a good idea to remove the plates anyhow. With a cordless impact the plates can be removed in less than 1 minute.

What is the upside with these aftermarket plates? Are they stronger than the stock ones? The stock ones seemd beefy enough to me but I am not rock crawling, mostly they deflect gravel.

I didn't even realize it drained sideways, good to know. I need to look around under that thing one of these days. I don't think the stock plate is as thick - this asfir is 1/4" aluminum. Probably just more heavy duty.

Yeah, for servicing, it will definitely need to be removed. Remove the four frame bolts and loosen the front plate, pull back and remove.

Here are the pics...
