There are a number of sensors in the console. Could be that one that is connected to the transmission got wet. You could get into the console and try to dry them out and see if that helps.

I left the sun roof open and got some rain on the console of my LR3 and it showed a suspension fault until it dried out.

See if your brake lights are both working. On a Disco II if one is out you can't get out of park. The brake lights signal the sensor on the gear lever setup that you overrode.

Then that switch with the pin is the problem, I think.

This is the part: Switch

That's for an LR3. I that what you have? The switc is probably just dirty or wet. You might get by by removing it and spraying it with electronics cleaner.

Sam, I'm sorry but I am not sure on your truck... I assume it is similar to mine but I have a Discovery II. On mine you pull the shift **** straight up with some muscle and it pops off (by design). You then carefully pull up the gear selector cover on the console... it makes clicks as you pull it up, and tilts back, coming off. The switch is to the right next to the gear selector and removing it (if memory serves) is just a couple of screws and the wiring connector, which pinches off.

The quick fix to get on the road is to do all of that and just slide the pin back manually. That should free your gear selector.

My pleasure. That is a poorly designed part on all Land Rovers. I just wish some LR3 people would chime in since I only know about Discovery II's. But you should be able to get it going if that switch is the issue.

Good luck.
