Default Big coolant leak

So when my daughter came home from church this a.m. there is a big puddle of coolant under her LR3. There's no visible coolant in the overflow tank but thankfully when I took the lid off I could at least hear some coolant gurgling/sloshing around, so it's not completely dry. I will have it towed to a shop in the a.m.

I wouldn't think a water pump or radiator leak would account for such a sudden, large leak. Seems like it could be hose? I started the car and the temp was still smack in the middle so I am thinking/hoping that we didn't have an overheat/damage situation.

Pull off the engine cover and check the vent T over the top of the throttle body.

The housing is plastic and known to fail. When it does you'll spray your coolant out the hose

Well, I topped off the coolant tank, drove the vehicle around for a bit, and it's sitting in my driveway and I can't get it to leak a drop right now.

Looking down below the radiator with my flashlight, in whatever pan that is under the engine, there is radiator fluid standing, so certainly lots of evidence of a leak besides all of the obvious prestone on my my driveway. Time to take it in for a thorough look-over.

These are photos in the area to the left of the radiator where coolant is accumulating.

i'ts probably coming from higher up. As noted, take off engine cover. Front plastic pipe on radiator(passenger side), Plastic T(as mentioned) or front cross over are all possible culprits.

Well, the mechanic is reporting that I have the wrong type of coolant in the system from my recent heater core flush/refill, and that caused a part to break. I went with precisely the coolant Autozone told me, so I am not sure what happened. The coolant is just standard Autozone 50/50 green. Is that not correct?

Green coolant won't make a part break, but its not the right kind. You need orange/Pink formula. Dexcool.

Great to know! Is Dexcool at most auto parts stores?
