blood curdling brake squeal resolved 2005 LR3
I had a really bad brake squeal from the right side of our LR3. It appeared to be from the right rear. I ordered and installed new pads and rotors. Rotors had some grooves, but not too bad and the pads were at 50%. Test drive, still had the squealing. Added additional CRC Brake Noise Silencer, the red bottle. Still squealed. Noise got worse. Embarrassingly worse. Children ran from the street in horror. I pulled my cap down and wore dark glasses even at night.......I ordered a new set of front rotors and pads, got a good deal from BP Utah, free overnight shipping and no sales tax. Textar pads and rotors and new sensor. $250. Installed the rotors and pads yesterday (used the CRC Brake Noise Silencer), amazing, no more squealing! It looked as if one of the sound absorbing pads on the back of the pad had come loose and was adding to the noise. It is like driving a new truck.
One point of interest. I have a leaking front right strut. (I have one new Arnott AS-2809 and I am ordering another). At standard height, I can see air bubbles when I spray soapy water on the boot. When I lifted the truck with the jack yesterday to do the brakes, the strut boot started hissing like crazy as the boot extended. Got to get that changed before it burns out my air pump.
