Default Bosch vs. Denso MAF

I have been getting phantom DTCs for lean and rich in both banks.
In tracking it down I was told by a reputable and knowledgeable indie mechanic that I should not be using the denso MAF but only use the OEM Bosch for my 06 LR3. Says they fail quickly (he's tested this) and start they throwing codes.

Has anyone heard of this?

Everything was checked on the truck and even smoke tested.
I swapped in a new Bosch MAF and will see what happens.
I have a 1000 mile trip next week.

I'm no technical authority on it but I have about 50k trouble free miles on one from Advance Auto Parts that says Toyota on it. I think it's a Denso.

That's nice to hear, I've one of those on order.

Don't know what's on the car at present as it's not written on it. Nor do I know how old it is as it was on when I bought the car about 24k ago, but seeing as it has no markings on it at all I suspect it's non original.

I thought the one fitted originally were Denso but maybe not.

I replaced the maf sensor because of p0171 and p0174 codes, the original is a dense and the one I replaced it with was from rockauto also made by denso. The price was however significantly lower.

Interesting info, thanks.

Now I'm thinking that It may not have been the MAF.
However I have just returned form a 1600 mile trip with no DTC lean/rich codes with the new bosch.

I would be curious to see what happens if I put the 3 month old denso (napa auto) back in but I'm going to quit while I'm ahead.

Anyone need a MAF to test? I will let the denso go cheap.

FYI Denso was $124 @ Napa
Bosch was $200 @ local indy mechanic

It's not totally improbable that the 3 month old Denso was just a bad one and you were the unfortunate who got it. If I were you I'd return it for a full refund, too expensive to just consign to the bits box or bin.

Miamibritish sell MAFs for $76 not sure what brand, but might be Allmakes. LAND ROVER MAF MASS AIR FLOW METER LR2 LR3 LR4 RR SPORT RANGE PHF000140 ALLMAKES4x4 | Miami British Corp.

The new Denso one I've ordered is $39.62 (£30) off Ebay and has Toyota embossed on it as well as the Denso part Nş and name.
