What would cause the shifter to not be able to get out of park? I ran diagnostics and get a P0504. I have replaced the brake switch behind the brake pedal and still have the same problem. I am able to get it in neutral by turning the key but not turning the engine over. Once I get it to neutral then I can start the engine and it will let me shift to Drive. The problem with this though is that it will not shift up to the next gear. The dash also tells me that limited gears are available

 

Thats usually a faulty gear selector or cable requires adjustment.
