Default carrier seal won't stop leaking!

08 LR3 HSE, I managed to mangle the original passenger side oil seal while replacing the differential and managed to also mangle the inboard CV boot at the same time. I got another drive axle from some fleabay junkyard, replaced the seal, still leaking. I'm now on the thrid seal and it's still damn leaking. Either I am totally incompetent regrading the seal or I'm missing something. It leaks enough to spew small oil drops all over the rear gate and the back of the beast smells lightly of gear oil. Any ideas? I did get a new boot kit to fix the original axle, as there apparently a part number difference between the locking diff axle and an open axle, and I'm wondering if the locking axle(if that's the one it is) isn't playing well with my open diff?
Any ideas appreciated.

I think the early years did have different axle shafts, but that could have been rumor. It was said that the "HD package" vehicles had thicker rear axle half shafts.

When it comes to the seal, it must be replaced properly. Meaning the plastic protector ring the seal comes with must be utilized. No protector ring with the seal? Its a crap seal to begin with.
