Follow up on Axle Seal Replacement
I read a post where someone mentioned that no resolution is ever posted. I tend to agree sometimes.
So, If anyone is interested here is how I changed the left from axle seal on the 99 DiscoII
Pic 1 Is wheel removed
Pic2 Remove Brake disc
Pic 3 Remove speed sensor from exciter
Pic4 Remove 4 bolts from Hub
Pic 5 Use a BFH and penetrating oil to loosen Hub from Steering Knuckle.
Didn't get a pic of the axle on the bench.
Pic 6 Old seal
Pic 7 Seal was hard to get in the seat so I borrowed a seal insertion tool from Advance Auto and made a jack out of threaded rod nuts washers adn a piece of Oak flooring to jack against the inside of the knuckle. It took much more pressure than expected. I used RTV outside of the seal to hold it in there. greased the inner race of the seal and the axle where the seal race runs. Put the axle back in. There is a spline on the diff end of the axle that must be lined up in the diff, be careful and don't let the axle mess up the seal. keep it elevated till the spline seats
Reassemble using torque specs in the Rave. Drive on!
This is not too bad a job as long as the CV joint is good.
I hope this helps someone along the way.
