Central Va LR3

Central Va LR3
Hello,
I just recently bought a 2005 LR3 SE with 175,000 miles on it for around 5k. It is in incredible shape with a clean carfax. I am looking to do all the work on my own, well as much as I have time for that is. This is going to be my daily driver, we do have a few other vehicles just incase. I am new to the LR scene and a Disco has been my dream vehicle. I have been all over the world for various reasons and the number 1 vehicle I see is the LR. I am aware of the many things that can go wrong with the vehicle, but for the price I paid, I am willing to take this chance.
Does anyone in this forum live in Central Virginia and is enthusiastic about 4x4(ing) your Rover? If so I would like to meet up and get some pointers and tips.
I am also looking for a good LR independent mechanic as well, preferably near Charlottesville va.
Thanks for any responses!

Congrats! I actually moved from the area recently. Charlottesville I love but you're pretty screwed on the service end. I spent some time in Fredericksburg when I was working on my 3 and finishing school , so I went north to the dealer in Tyson's corner. Your alternative to the DC area is Richmond, which I have heard good things about. Tyson's while a long *** drive away really did me some favors. Easily my favorite dealership ever.
As for Charlottesville, there was one guy I knew who went to an indy shop run by a guy who just worked on rovers. Unfortunately due to the complicated nature of the newer electronics he may be limited on what he can do for you. I'll have to make some calls to find out the place. Keep you posted .

I live in Northern Virginia and frequently head south along the I-81 corridor. There are some good events and off-road parks in Virginia if you want to get accustomed to your vehicle, but not many good "trails".
You should definitely join the Mid-Atlantic Overland Society Facebook page to keep abreast of events, meetups, etc.
I don't know what your budget is, but if you're interested in taking any formal classes, there's an outfit down your way called Overland Experts (located in Orange, VA) that I would certainly recommend. In full disclosure, I have not taken a class of theirs yet, but I hung out with some of the guys at the Vermont Overland Rally and took one of their driving courses during the rally and those guys certainly know their stuff. They are also very patient and very helpful. I was impressed and wouldn't hesitate to sign up for one of their recovery/off-road driving classes.

Hey,
Sorry its taken me so long to get back to your responses, I have a very packed schedule with very little down time. Grad school full time, work full time, just bought a house, married, many personal projects... the list never ends! But I am excited to have the rover and hopefully get to meet some of you guys. I do know about the guys in Orange, I actually know a few guys who work there. I used to have a BMW R1150GS motorcycle that I just recently sold, but I used to ride all over the place with, so I do know of a few fire roads off the BRP if anyone wants to join in the next few months.
