Default Cleaning a CJB

Having a on going issue related to a symptom of flashers coming on, radio states system shutdown, AC goes out etc. If you want to see another thread about this click here
U0167 issue

The CJB was removed and "cleaned off" after my son finally found that there was water ingress from the typical sunroof drain issue. This cleaning was right before I drove from Fort Carson back to Georgia. I got all the to Kansas City before the symptoms came back.

Thinking something with removing the CJB, "cleaning it", then reinstalling it might have had a positive result.

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to properly clean up a CJB? Is it possible to take the two boards apart and clean with electronics cleaner? Possibly a Isopropyl alcohol bath?

Any suggestions would be great.

No one has ever successfully cleaned a CJB (main fuse box under passenger side dash). I may have a issue with mine due to the leaking sunroof drain.

Going to try to pull apart to get to the chips in it, but if I can was wondering if a dip in a alcohol bath would work, then quickly blow it out/off

White vinegar works really, really good with a soft toothbrush. Flush with water, distilled is best. LOTS. Then you can follow with an alcohol bath and blow off. I would still follow with an oven back at low temp for an hour or so. I repair vintage motherboards so I use that technique often.

Well, got the CJB out and figured out how to take it apart. Not super hard. There are two boards with a standoff plate between the two boards. You have to take all fuses and relays out which holds the 2 boards in place. The two parts are soldered together in MANY places.

All of the fuses had some sort or corrosion on them and some were difficult to pull out. I opted not to take the two boards apart. I just drenched it all with some spray Deoxit D5 (even in between the two boards), let it set, then sprayed everything off with standard CRC electrical cleaner.

Just ordered all new Bussmann Fuses and the three relays.

I took pics of everything and will post a new thread with the procedure.

While waiting for the fuses and relays, I am going to pull the ECM and inspect and clean it and seal it. New Cowling going in as well

I would take a super close look for any cold (cracked) solder joints at connections, etc. Reflow as needed. I do not envy the work you are doing.

Didn't see any cold solder points under a magnifier, put a hard tool on every joint I could access without de-soldering the boards, and even told my wife (she's Filipina) that I might have found the issue

Without digging further, I have gone as far as I can. At this point, without replacing the CJB with a brand new one, I think the overall issue must be somewhere else. Next is the ECM.

Well, I could go further with re-balling/re-floating/re-fluxing the boards but a brand new one would be easier.

Did you ever complete this with the old board?

How did you separate the case from CJB?
